We have a family tradition, both around the holidays and all year round.
We love making brunch, specifically we love to make what we call Puff Pancakes.
Some people call them Dutch Babies, some call them German Pancakes.
We just call them “puffs” for short.
I like to bake them in the oven in a round heavy cast iron or stoneware pan.
Do you have family traditions revolving around a special recipe?
Puff Pancake Recipe
Butter: 1/3 cup
Eggs: 4
Milk & Flour: 1 cup each
Vanilla: 1 tsp
Put butter in 3-4 qt. pan and set in 425 degree oven.
Mix batter as quickly as butter melts.
Put eggs in a blender and blend at high speed for 1 minute.
While motor is running, gradually pour in milk, the slowly add the flour; continue blending for about 30 seconds. Add a teaspoon or more (I love more!) of vanilla.
Remove pan from oven and pour batter into hot melted butter.
Bake until puffed, about 20 minutes.
Garnish with fresh squeezed lemon and powdered sugar.

Those sound delicious! I have never made them, but may have to try after seeing your recipe. The family food tradition that first comes to mind is my husband’s family has had grilled steaks – prepared simply with garlic salt and pepper every single Saturday night for as long as I have know them…that is every Saturday night for at least the last 37 years!

Our tradition is to have Chocolate Mousse Pie. I make an Oreo cookie crust. Then I make chocolate pudding and mix it with whipped cream to make a chocolate mousse for the filling. Then I top the pie with more whip cream and tiny chocolate chips and a cherry on top.
We eat this every Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We have several food traditions at our house. I made homemade pizza many a Friday night and breakfast for Christmas is ALWAYS Chocolate Chip Muffins that are decadent. That’s just a couple of them.

I had six of our grandchildren over on Saturday to spend the night as a grand finale celebration of our Thanksgiving family weekend. We made soft cinnamon sugar pretzels together and delighted in the fun creations of each uniquely gifted grandchild. YUM! This looks so delicious! I love pancakes, but a puffy pancake? I will simply have to try that! ;-) My mom makes Monkey Bread every Christmas morning, and she has ever since I was a little kid! I love it and look forward to it every year.

I would love to win the beautiful Nativity Scene by DaySpring!!!! I was not only born on Christmas Day but also was married on Christmas Day, so Christmas is an extremely wonderful time for myself and my family. I have never had a Nativity Scene but have ALWAYS wanted one and this one would absolutely complete my Christmas decorations for many years to come.

Looks Delicious! My daughter, Onna, loves pancakes and eats them every morning. We call her the Pancake Queen. I am sure she would love these!
In the ingredients it is 1 cup of flour for each. How many does each puff typically feed?

Depending on hungry everyone is, it can feed 6 with a good sized puff! :-) Picture it like a pie. If you divided it into sixth that would be the size of one puff piece. We love puffs so I usually make two for 5 or 6 people just so there is plenty. :-)

I am much older than you, a grandmother now, but I love decorating and you have given me many great ideas and references to use even though I am getting ready to retire. In fact, I am looking forward to the time at home now because I see so many fun things to try on this website.

we love our traditions, too, and at our house that includes a brunch for holidays, b’days, and any other excuse we can find to celebrate. we get out the cheapo china that I got from my aunt’s house, a table cloth that is too short for our 9″ table and actually put our food in serving dishes. we, too, appreciate a pretty table.
I like the sound of your recipe. I’ll be trying to convert it to gluten free (I’m not really much of a baker, so if anyone else does the conversion, PLEASE share).
question: does the puff slide out of the pan pretty easily? I noticed in other comments that you prepare more than one; I have hopes of there being no need to clean the pan between each puff. I think I night need 3 for my family……one whole puff for the son who eats like a farm worker!
